Barbara Jane Mackie has just completed the full treatment of her comedy ‘RUMPY PUMPY’, a film about an English Brothel Owners, Working Girls and campaigning ladies from the Hampshire Women’s Institute. (Treatment available). Barbara completed her second original screenplay ‘COWBOY GIRLS’, a Western, which attracted industry support and was backed and developed by the late Anthony Minghella, who called it ‘bold, huge fun and highly original.’

‘COWBOY GIRLS’ is an epic Western set in the 1840’s about two Irish cowgirls and a Society Heiress who discover personal and economic freedom out West. Rhodri Thomas at the WEINSTEIN COMPANY said ‘There was much to admire in this script’. Barbara’s first screenplay ‘MIMI’ was commissioned by The European Media Development Fund and brought her to the attention of WORKING TITLE FILMS.

At BBC Birmingham, Barbara, as Senior Script Editor, developed the medical drama series DANGERFIELD, DALZIEL AND PASCOE, INSPECTOR SHEIKH, the comedy-drama series RUMBLE and the award-winning film BAD COMPANY, which secured the release of the Birmingham Four. Barbara produced the single film SEED for BBC 2. Barbara produced the documentaries GOLD, SPECIAL OLYMPICS and NO FAITH IN US for Channel 4, and directed the BBC documentary, AN EVENING WITHOUT JOHN McCARTHY.

Barbara studied Drama and American Studies at Hull University and became Administrator of THE TRAMSHED THEATRE with Alternative Comedians Rik Mayall and Adrian Edmondson. Barbara is an ASSOCIATE LECTURER at Southampton Solent University and GUEST LECTURER at Portsmouth University where she lectures in Screenwriting, TV Programme Development and Single Drama.
